The 6th China Structural Heart Disease Academic Week, held on October 9, 2022, along with the 6th China International Structural Cardiology Conference and the Structural Cardiology Group Year of the Cardiovascular Physicians Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, marked a successful milestone. From October 10th to 14th, China Structural Heart Disease Academic Week streamed surgeries continuously for five days on four channels.
This year's China Structural Heart Disease Academic Week, hosted by Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, featured a main venue in Shanghai and four branch venues in Beijing, Guangzhou, Xi'an, and Wuhan. The opening ceremony took place simultaneously in these five locations.
Notable speakers at the conference included academicians Gao Runlin from Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Ge Junbo from Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, and Zhou Daxin, also from Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University. Professor Wu Yongjian from Fuwai Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Luo Jianfang from Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, Professor Tao Ling from Xijing Hospital of Air Force Medical University, Professor Su Xi from Wuhan Yaxin General Hospital, Professor Lin Yixian from Hong Kong Asian Heart Center, Professor Yin Weixian from Taipei Chin Hsing Hospital, Professor Hasan Jilaihawi from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the United States, and Professor Thomas Modine from Bordeaux University Hospital in France delivered captivating opening speeches as conference chairpersons.
In addition, prominent structural cardiology experts, including Prof. Wang Jian'an from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Prof. Chen Mao from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Chen Yundai from the First Medical Center of the People's Liberation Army, Prof. Kong Xiangqing from the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Prof. Xu Yawei from the Tenth Affiliated People's Hospital of Tongji University, Prof. Thomas E. Wagoner from the PIMA Cardiovascular Center in the United States, and Prof. Horst Sievert from the Frankfurt Cardiovascular Center in Germany, participated both online and offline during the opening ceremony.
On October 10th, the conference featured specialized sessions on TAVR, LAAC, atrial defects, biodegradable occluders, pulmonary valves, and shunts. Professors Zhou Daxin, Pan Wenzhi, and Dr. Li Mingfei from Zhongshan Hospital, affiliated with Fudan University, presented surgical cases and discussed FreeFlow shunt's clinical advancements in addressing right heart failure during the shunt session at the conference.
As of October 2022, for FreeFlow shunt, clinical trials were successfully conducted on four right heart failure patients. One-month follow-up data reveals a 46% average reduction in NT-Pro BNP levels, a 13% decrease in right ventricular diameter, and notable breakthroughs in clinical outcomes..
The FreeFlow shunt has launched a nationwide, multi-center clinical trial registration, with more hospitals set to participate. This will extend the benefits of the study to a greater number of right heart failure patients.
